This will show you how to keep screenshots from using so much memory.
It's a simple trick really but really effective. All you need to do is to open up your image using your paint program and just resave the image. Some of you may know this but I'm just putting this here for those who don't know they are wasting memory by not doing this.
I was amazed at how much memory my screenshots took for just one little picture. Some pictures were taking 300kb plus of memory and others were taking around 100kb of memory. I knew this had to be wrong. But I soon realized that it was right.
Once you understand what your computer is doing it makes perfect sense. When a computer saves an image it really saves an image. It also saves everything else in the image as well. Not only does it save the image,it saves everything within the image.Your character and all of your character's stats, inventory, how far it has gone in the game anything that is attached to the character winds up as memory used in the image. This also goes for the background as well. As a general rule the more things happening in your image the more memory it will take for a screenshot.
A screenshot of just a pretty view will take less memory. A screenshot of you giving a final blow to a dreaded boss will take more memory. It will also save all of the boss stats as well if he is visible in the image. An image of you and your beloved in game pet will cost more memory than one by yourself.
Now to combat this is easy. Just open the image up and view it.
Under the image should be some commands to scroll through your pictures, zoom in,delete, etc. Look next to the help button there should be a little icon of a picture. When you hover your cursor over this it should say closes program and opens image for editing. Click the icon and it will open the image through your paint program. Now you can go to file and resave the image. By doing this you will save the image only and eliminate all of the other memory that was taking up space.
Your screenshots that once took 300kbs will go down to 175-150kbs. Images that were once 200kbs should be around 100kbs. Images around 150-100kbs will take up 75-60kbs or less.
Now you know how to use less memory for your screenshots which will mean more memory to use playing the game.
